Associate of Occupational Studies/ Diploma:Massage Therapy

The Missouri College massage therapy program offers students instruction on many aspects of knowledge needed such as practical and theoretical massage, anatomy, physiology, pathology, ethics, clinical practice, and hygiene. Training will include not just massage therapy but a wide spectrum of related therapies as well- hydrotherapy, applying topical medications, hot/cold therapy, and the use of mechanical devices. The heart of the program encompasses lecture components and clinical components.

Graduates of the massage therapy program who have completed externship, studied and practiced their skills and attended required classes, will have skills necessary to seek entry-level employment.

Once you have graduated the program, you will be encouraged to sit for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) certification exam. This certificate is not generally mandatory (although may be in certain states), but its status nationally among the profession means that with it, candidates are likely to have a better chance of finding a job and earning more money. Outside agencies, not Missouri College, control the certification mutable requirements for taking and passing this examination. We cannot guarantee that graduates will be entitled to take this certification exam, or any other certification exam, at any time, despite their eligibility standing upon enrollment.

State Licensure Information

To practice in Missouri, you will need to be a licensed massage therapist. You need to pass the NCBTMB certifying exam to get a state license, and you may also need this certificate in order to work in other states. Missouri College has nothing to do with the licensure or registration requirements of any state. We have no influence over the requirements for licensure/registration in Missouri or in any other state.
