Somerset School of Massage Therapy
The Somerset School of Massage Therapy ( also known as "Cortiva") was founded in 1987. The school is proud of its reputation as the first massage school in New Jersey to be accredited by COMTA. It's two New Jersey campuses can be found in Piscataway and Wall Township.
Professional Massage Therapy Diploma: 46.5 quarter credits (600 real time hours)
Cortiva Institutes Professional Massage Therapy program offers an in depth course of instruction that brings together the intellectual and technical aspects of the field. Focused on the value of client centered care, the courses in massage therapy theory and practice, communication and ethics in therapeutic relationship, as well as real life clinical experience are rounded out by studies in the structure, function, and diseases of human body.
Competent and engaged faculty who are supported by classroom technology, merge scientific foundations, relevant text books, and hands-on instruction to offer an experiential learning environment that nourishes clinical reasoning skills within the students. Continued education provides for the added benefits of a secure career in becoming a massage therapist, who is prepared to take the National Certification Examination.
The Professional Massage Therapy program constitutes 46.5 quarter credit hours and 600 clock hours. Completion of the program can be achieved in two (2) quarter or six month schedule or a four (4) quarter or 12 month schedule.
The Massage program at Cortiva institute readies the student to:
- Show their abilities, expertise and resolve for a successful career in massage therapy.
- Apply theory and practical skills to better design and set-up therapeutic wellness and massage treatment plans for many clients.
- To conduct essential to the practice of massage and bodywork, expose personal and professional ethics.
- Own their own business or join a practice or company as an employee.
- Promote the massage profession and serve the community as a health care professional.
Upon program completion, graduates will be prepared with the skills necessary to practice massage therapy in a number of therapeutic environments including: clinics, spas, hospitals and individually-owned private practices.
All successful graduates of the program receive a Diploma.
