Western School of Health and Business:

Founded in 1980, Western School of Health and Business Careers offers a number of exciting career programs in a variety of fields at our two conveniently located campuses in Pittsburgh and Monroeville. We offer Associate in Specialized Technology, Specialized Business, and Diploma programs. Practical training is focused by Western's program as they are appropriate to the requirements of the employers and deal with areas having good employment opportunities.

Massage Therapy Diploma:

Students will receive their Massage Therapy Diploma after receiving instruction in practical and theoretical massage, anatomy, hygiene, ethics, pathology, physiology and clinical practice at the Massage Therapist program offered at WSHBC - Western School of Health and Business Careers in Pittsburgh. Training in therapeutic massage principles, hydrotherapy and allied therapeutic modalities, including massage techniques, the external application of water, heat, cold topical preparations, and mechanical devices are all a part of this program. Students who enroll in the program will receive in-class instruction from highly qualified lecturers, as well as hands-on practice in clinics. The externship will end with the student being supervised in a clinical setting where the student will be expected to have certain competencies, logs, and evaluations. Upon completion of the program, successful students will have been present at class and for their externship, studied diligently, and practiced their skills. They will then be prepared to find entry-level employment as massage therapists.

Once you have completed the program, you will be well prepared for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) certification exam, which you are encouraged to take. This credential is a nationally recognized voluntary certification that opens the door to more job opportunities and greater income, but may require you to practice in a specific state. Certification requirements for this examination are controlled by other agencies and not by WSHBC and therefore requirements are subject to change without prior notice. WSHBC can't guarantee that graduates will be eligible to take this certification test, or any other certification test, at all or any given time, no matter what their eligibility status is at the time of enrollment.
